Sleeping Posture
Do you sleep on you back, side or stomach?
How many pillows do you use?
Is your bed soft or firm?
Use of the advice below will be a good step towards prevention of problems such as back and neck pain along with other ailments.
The best sleeping posture is on the back in a firm bed with adequate support of the neck. Soft beds cause strain on all of the muscles and ligaments and if possible should be replaced with a firm mattress.
Using a soft pliable pillow under the head and neck and bringing the two corners up over the shoulders can achieve support of you neck while sleeping on your back.
If possible refrain from sleeping on your stomach as this places undue strain on the neck joints and muscles. If you are a devout stomach sleeper a solution is to have a pillow under the chest to minimize strain. Another way is to try and break the habit by loosely tying a sheet around the waist with the knot on the stomach.
If you are a side sleeper you should concentrate on having sufficient pillow support between the head and neck, not the shoulder, and a bed that supports the spine.
